Budgeting and banking made simple:

Converting between hourly and salary

To turn an hourly wage into an annual salary, multiply the hourly rate by the hours you work each week and the weeks you work each year. The other direction just reverses it: divide the salary by your yearly working hours to get the hourly rate. The two inputs that trip people up are hours per week (part-time changes everything) and weeks per year — a full 52 assumes no unpaid time off, so drop it if you take unpaid leave.

Choose a direction, enter the amount and your working pattern, and the calculator shows the yearly, monthly, and hourly figures side by side.

A worked example

$25 an hour at 40 hours a week for 52 weeks is $25 × 40 × 52 = $52,000 a year, or about $4,333 a month. Work 37.5 hours instead and the same rate comes to $48,750 — which is why "hours per week" matters so much when you compare offers.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert hourly pay to a yearly salary?

Does this include tax?

No — these are gross (before-tax) figures. Take-home pay depends on your country's tax rules.
